CANDLE CARE

WHY SOY WAX?

Soy wax is 100% all natural wax that is derived from vegetable soybeans. It not only is environmentally friendly, renewable, and biodegradable. Soy wax burns almost twice as slow as standard paraffin wax, which in result, you’ll have a candle that lasts very long! There is less soot released into the air when lit, thus resulting in a “clean” burning candle.

WHY DOES A WICK NEED TO BE TRIMMED?

Always keep a candle wick trimmed to around 1/4” after every burn. Trimming a candle wick helps to prolong the candle’s burn time. A large flame can occur if the wick is too long, resulting in a high flames, which is not only a safety hazard, but also decreases the longevity because the wax will melt faster than the wick burns. Keep it trimmed, you’ll get more for your money!

WHY IS THERE SOY WAX LEFT IN THE BOTTOM OF A CANDLE JAR?

This is actually a good thing! It’s a way of a candle maker letting you know that the candle was made the right way. Once the candle has been melted down, about a 1/4” of wax will remain, and the tab for the wick will be shown. This is to help stop the flame from burning the inside of the jar it’s in! PRO TIP: set the jar on a candle warmer to fully melt the rest of the wax, while still emitting the fragrance into the air!

HOW LONG SHOULD A SOY CANDLE BURN?

Candles in general should not burn longer than 4 - 5 hrs. at one time. This is the perfect time to have the candle melt completely to the edge of the container, so that the fragrance throw will be at its maximum strength. This also helps avoid “tunneling” which can burn a hole in the center of the container, leaving a ton of un-melted soy wax. In increments of 4-5 hrs., soy wax candles can range from 40hrs. - 60hrs. of total burn time!

IS SOY WAX SAFE AROUND PETS?

Yes! Since the wax is driven from vegetable soybeans, they are 100% safe to burn around all animals! Unlike paraffin wax, it does not release any carcinogens, does not contain any lead, benzene, or formaldehyde. In fact, soy wax is one of the most recommended waxes by vets to burn around your furry family member!

WHY DOES THE WAX LOOK “DISCOLORED” IN MY CANDLE?

This is a natural occurrence that is extremely common in soy wax. It is called “frosting” and happens when oils are mixed with soy wax, resulting in crystals forming throughout the entire candle. It’s almost inevitable to reduce this result, so if you receive a candle that has “frosted”, know that this is normal and your candle will burn just fine!
